To be a Christian is to be a Disciple

What does it mean to be a Christian?  Is that different than what it means to be a disciple?  Can't I just be a normal everyday Christian without having to hand all of my life over to Jesus?  Can't you be saved without being "super spiritual?"  What does Jesus say about this?
